Darren Bazeley
Technical Director

Qualifications: UEFA A Licence

Darren is currently the All Whites assistant coach, NZ U20 national coach and Olywhites assistant coach so Fencibles is very excited to be bringing into the club a very high level of expertise and talent. Darren has an extensive footballing background both as a professional player and a coach and he was lured back to New Zealand from his professional coaching role at the Newcastle Jets. Previous to his Newcastle position he was coaching the Colorado Rapids in the MLS and U17 NZ national age group. Darren has been involved in 72 New Zealand international games, coached at 5 World Cups with the U17 and U20 national teams and he holds a UEFA A License. As part of the first steps Darren will be working closely with the board and Martin Rodwell (our new Director of Football) to understand the key drivers in our transformation and then he will lead the delivery of these pivotal areas through the club. 

Marty Rodwell
Director of Football & Mens First Team Coach

Qualifications: OFC/NZF B License, Bachelor in Sports & Exercise.

Age Group Coaching: Director of Football & Men's First Team Head Coach

Marty will be joining us from Manurewa where he has spent the last 3 years as their head coach gaining promotion into 1st Division. He currently teaches sports at schools and for the last few years he has coached National Youth league teams for both Auckland Football and Waitakere. Marty has a passion for developing Junior & Youth football and 6 years ago he started the SAE Football Academy which now has 150 members with two of them currently in the U20 NZ national training squad. Marty’s primary role for Fencibles will be on the field setting the coaching standards, coaching our players and coaching our coaches. Marty is an avid Liverpool fan (he did not tell us that when he applied!) and outside of the game he is busy with his family including his four children.

Darryl Hamilton
Football Development Manager

Qualifications: OFC/NZF C License (assessment pending) & NZF Junior Level 3 (pending assessment)

Age Group Coaching: Academy Coach

Darryl started at Fencibles as a player back in 2003. He started coaching his daughters team 2014 when she was in 8th Grade, before coaching his sons the following season, who he has been coaching ever since. Darryl has had great success with what is now our 12th Grade Development+ squad, which have been performing at a high standard year after year. This season Darryl was appointed our player development manager and has worked on not only our players development but the overall growth of the club. This season Darryl has coached the 5th Grade, 12th Grade Development + squad, 13th Grade Championship team and the U18 girls team.

Brock Radich
Mens Reserve (U23) & First Team Assistant Coaches

Qualifications: OFC/NZF C License (pending assessments)

Age Group Coaching: Senior Mens Reserve (U23) Head Coach & Men's First Team Assistant Coach

Brock joined our club in 2021 with his connection to Marty from Manurewa as his assistant coach. Marty and Brock have been working together over the past couple of years and were also part of the National Youth League coaching team with Eastern Suburbs. Prior to linking up with Eastern Suburbs and Marty, Brock played 6 seasons with premier side Hamilton Wanderers. He then went on to taking up his first coaching position with the club where we was the head coach for the Wanderers u23 side. Brock has a great passion for the game and development. He is excited by the prospect of where our club can be in the near future.

Mikey Poulopoulos (Mikey P)
Development Plus & Academy Coach

Qualifications: OFC/NZF C License & First Aid Level 1

Age Group Coaching: U17 Grade and Academy Coach

Mikey brings with him a passion and attitude like no other. Mikey is enthusiastic and has a real love for the game - something which is clearly evident in his sessions with the players. He has experience playing for Sacred Heart 1st XI as a player, and then as coaches at Coerver Academy and Papakura FC. Mikey has a great knowledge on building skill and technical ability in his players. He sees his players not just as athletes, but also as developing young people, and is intent on improving their ability to tackle life both on and off the pitch.

Adam Thurston
Development Plus & Academy Coach

Qualifications: Confederation C License & First Aid Level 1

Age Group Coaching: 14th & 15th Grade and Academy Coach

Adam is another strong player who plays National League for Auckland City. He came to New Zealand from South Shields FC, following 8 years in the Manchester United development academy and spells with Preston North End, Hyde United, and FC United in the UK. Adam brings a wealth of coaching experience to the club, including a vast range of experience in junior and youth development. He has recently launched his one-on-one coaching business, “The Pro Project”.

Roy DSouza
Development Plus & Academy Coach

Qualifications: OFC/NZF C License, NZF Junior Level 3 & First Aid Level 1

Age Group Coaching: 13th Grade and Academy Coach

Roy comes to us from our resource sharing agreement with Eastern Suburbs. The bulk of his experience from a player’s perspective, following a professional career spanning 5 years on Indian home soil.Roy is a current member of our Fencibles NRFL Men’s squad, and began coaching to supplement his career in the strength & conditioning industry. Because of this background, Roy has a strong knowledge of individual player development and is working hard to coach his players at the highest level.

Sam Jones
Development Plus & Academy Coach

Qualifications: Youth Level 2

As one of our younger player-coaches, Sam came to Fencibles in 2017 following an upbringing at rival club Onehunga Sports. Sam made the move to Fencibles to play Senior level football, and quickly became a regular starter in our Senior Mens First Team. Sam is working hard to balance his commitments as a player, coach, whilst studing his Masters in Architecture at the University of Auckland. He is determined to contribute to the development of our junior and youth players. Sam is regularly involved in the Development Plus sessions, Summer Academy and Holiday Programmes.

Sam Lonergan
Development Plus & Academy Coach

Qualifications: Youth Level 2

Sam came to Fencibles as a player in 2020 after a number of succesful seasons at rival club Onehunga Sports where he also played representative football for Auckland at U15 and U16 age groups. Sam is also a former member of the St Kents 1st eleven. He is now pushing for selection in our mens Senior First team after impressive performances in our Senior Mens Reserve team (U23) and U20 summer programme. Sam is working hard to balance his commitments as a player, coach, whilst studing at University for a degree. He is regularly involved in the Development Plus sessions, summer Academy and Holiday Programmes always keen to share his passion for the game with the next generation of Fencibles players.

Annie Byrne
Development Plus Coach - Girls

Annie joined us this year and has been working in the U14s Girls section of the club. She brings all of her playing experiences from playing in the Womens Senior Premiership where she has won the NRFL and Kate Sheppard competitions. Annie was also a Futsal representative and National league winner. Outside football Annie is currently studying a Bachelor of Law.

Development Plus Coach - Girls

Qualifications: NZF Junior Level 2 & Youth Level 2

Erin is one of our younger coaches who has had a successful year with our 11th Grade Development+ girls teams. Outside of coaching Erin players for St Kents First 11. In 2017 & 2018 Erin was in the winning team for the Auckland Knockout and Premier Champions with Eastern Suburbs.

Oli Hawkey
Junior Coach

Qualifications: Youth Level 2

Oli is our youngest qualified coach and is a long-standing Fencibles player. He is looking to give back to the Fencibles community by encouraging our next generation of young players to fall in love with Football. Oli currently captains our U17 Championship team, as well as a member of the Sacred Heart College Senior squad. Oli has a real passion for football and is keen to pass on the knowledge and experience he is developing on to young players.

Ryan Mayer
Junior Coach

Qualifications: Youth Level 2

Ryan currently holds a starting role in our U17 NRFL Youth team and current member of the Macleans College 1st eleven. He is a long-standing Fencibles player. Ryan has a real passion for football and is keen to pass on the knowledge and experience he is developing on to younger players.
