Success at the Christchurch International Cup

Players from Fencibles United boys youth teams have enjoyed a successful trip to the annual Christchurch International Cup Tournament in Christchurch. Held during the July school holidays, the tournament enables our players to experience top football in their age groups, and the chance to develop their skills and football knowledge on and off the pitch. International teams from Australia were also participating including power house Sydney FC as well as teams from all around New Zealand.

The club couldn't be prouder of the results the boys have achieved and the way they have handled themselves for the whole week and Tournament. They learnt what it's like to travel together, play in unfamiliar surroundings, play in cold conditions and build closer friendships with each other.

A huge thank you to Darryl Hamilton who stayed in Christchurch for the three tournaments, overseeing and coaching each team. 

How the Fencibles teams finished:

U13’s - Tournament Champions

The Final was contested against Otakaro (TDP from Christchurch) which Fencibles won 5-1 to become 2023 champions in their age group.

U14’s - Tournament Champions

The Final was contested against Red Sox (from Palmerston North) which Fencibles won 2-0 in a closely contested final to become 2023 champions in their age group.

U15’s - Tournament Runners Up

The Final was contested against Australia’s powerhouse club Sydney FC who were well drilled, highly technical quick players. Fencibles were beaten 3-0 by Sydney FC in the final. It’s was a great experience to test themselves against some of the best players in Australia. Hence Fencibles were the runners up for 2023 in their age group.
